24 Apr 2024 – It is estimated that Brunei Darussalam has a diabetes prevalence of about 13% and evidence reveals that 1 in 3 diabetic patients develops diabetic retinopathy, which left untreated can lead to blindness.
This morning, Jerudong Park Medical Centre (JPMC) launched the SELENA+ Artificial Intelligence Diabetic Retinopathy Screening Service – the first AI eye screening service in Brunei Darussalam. EyRIS feels proud to be part of this profoundly meaningful project with the apt tagline “Early Detection Saves Sight”.
The launch of innovative eye screening service was officiated by the Guest Of Honour, Yang Berhormat Dato Seri Setia Dr Haji Mohd Isham bin Haji Jaafar, Minister of Health and Executive Director of JPMC, joined by Tuan Haji Maswadi bin Haji Mohsin, Permanent Secretary at Ministry of Health, along with representatives from Ministry of Health, Senior Management and Head of Departments of JPMC, and JPMC’s Consultant Ophthalmologists.
Over the past few months, the JPMC team led by Helena Hurairah has worked to ensure staff are trained to operate the fundus camera and processes are in-place. We thank the JPMC team for making this a success.
