Jan 2012 – Annually 300 new cases of cancer are reported in Brunei, and this number expected to grow with lung cancer is the most common cancer affecting men, while breast cancer is the most prevalent cancer among women. The National Cancer Centre (NCC), Brunei in Jerudong was established in 2010 with the foremost objective of providing cost-effective oncology treatment to cancer patients locally.
NCC is currently operating in the premise of Jerudong Park Medical Centre (JPMC) until their new building is completed.
A modern 11-storey NCC building overlooking the South-China Sea is designed and will also be constructed in Jerudong itself to provide conducive patient care environment. Completed, the building will also include day-care chemotherapy, radiotherapy treatment facilities and a research centre for epidemiology.
NCC inked a deal with JPMCnova, novaHEALTH’s joint-venture partner in Brunei to implement VESALIUS hospital information system.
Aside from the usual features, the implementation of VESALIUS will allow NCC which makes use of ancillary services from JPMC such as laboratory and pharmacy to send their orders seamlessly across the 2 facilities and receive results. Taking advantage of VESALIUS Multi-Organization Architecture, the system will also enable NCC to identify patients from JPMC without needing to re-enter patient bio-data and vice-versa.
Past medical records currently being scanned and indexed, will also be uploaded into VESALIUS to ensure a complete EMR that is easily retrievable in the new system.
