Land Transport Department, Brunei Launches Pilot System

To improve driving behaviour and to further improve road safety in the country, the Land Transport Department of the Ministry of Communications, Brunei Darussalam officially launched the “Demerit Points System (DPS) Pilot Programme”.

In the speech by the Ministry’s Permanent Secretary Dato Paduka Hj Alaihuddin Pehin Orang Kaya Digadong Seri Lela Dato Seri Utama Hj Mohd Taha said the Demerit Point System was designed to improve driving behaviour as well as produce more careful drivers in order to increase the level of road safety in Brunei.

The pilot Demerit Point System is developed as an extended sub-system to the present Land Transport Management System (Sistem Pengangkutan Darat – SPD). With the launch of the pilot programme, PDA devices will be used by the Land Transport Enforcement Officers to input the type of offence committed on the spot and uploaded back to SPD real time.

The Land Transport Information System (or Sistem Pengangkutan Darat – SPD) was developed and implemented by novaCITYNETS a subsidiary of Nova MSC Berhad, together with local partner OakChem Sdn Bhd. SPD was developed on Nova’s flagship product, PAVO™ Collaboration Framework.
