October 7 2003 – The International Alliance for Interoperability (IAI) Certification Workshop was jointly hosted by novaCITYNETS and the Singapore chapter of the IAI. The objective is to conduct certification of compliance of AEC Applications Product compliant to the Code Checking View specifications.
Participants from all over the world included such as Graphisoft (Hungary), GEM Team Solutions (Germany), EPM Technology (Norway).
Besides the certification of software products, the event also provided opportunity for participants to promote quality IFC implementations and to provide an opportunity for end-users to witness IFC implementations in a consistent way through demonstrations by widely adopted AEC products.
IAI’s mission is to integrate the AEC/FM industry by specifying Industry Foundation Classes (IFC) as a universal language to improve the communication, productivity, delivery time, cost, and quality throughout the design, construction, operation and maintenance life cycle of buildings.

IFC Compliance Certifications are currently divided into 2 categories: “Co-ordination View” and “Code Checking View”. Each category has 2-levels of certification, to signify the depth of IFC information used in implementation.
FORNAX™, Nova’s flagship product for Plan Checking was certified for both levels in Co-ordination View.
FORNAX™ is an electronic plan checking software that automates the process of checking and approving building plans for compliance with building regulations, codes of practice and planning guidelines. The software is developed to enable users to save time and cost in the compliance checking process.
This product was implemented in Singapore’s Ministry of National Development under the CORENET initiative to re-engineer the business processes of the construction industry. The CORENET project was driven by the Building & Construction Authority (BCA) in collaboration with other public and private organizations. Specifically, FORNAX™ is employed in the IBP/IBS project (Integrated Building Plan / Integrated Building Services Submission), which supports plan checking of submitted building plans. The IBP/IBS project implements an IFC2x compliant data server for plan submission.
