16 May 2024 –At 18.3% prevalence recorded in 2019, Malaysia worryingly has one of the highest rate of diabetes in the world. It is a major healthcare problem which, if not treated, will lead to other complicated medical conditions, including blindness. Early screening is highly effective in helping to prevent visual complications.
Thus, the underlined importance of the role that Diabetes Malaysia (DM) plays in raising awareness on prevention & control of diabetes and to help the diabetics to better manage the disease and its complications cannot be understated.
This morning at a press conference for D2M charity fund held in Penang graced by Guest-of-Honour Yg Berhormat Tn Daniel Gooi member of the Penang State Executive Council (EXCO), we are proud to be DM’s partner to spark a transformation in how we can overcome financial and skilled-manpower challenges hindering the deployment of a more comprehensive screening for the diabetic population. SELENA+ our deep learning system is adopted to automatically grade fundus images and highlight serious cases for urgent attention.
We thank Lions Club Chairman Dato Dr William Teh, D2M Organising Chairman/Lions Club, Dr Dicky Ng, Chairperson, Diabetes Malaysia (Penang) and Mr Albin Phua, CEO Penang Adventist Hospital for inviting us to be part of this meaningful initiative.
