18 Apr 2025 – Transfer-of-knowledge is part of our implementation of Brunei Darussalam’s national screening program using SELENA+ as the AI to detect diabetic retinopathy. As such, we are constantly mindful of the need to reinforce knowledge in the local staff that are involved in managing patients, operating fundus cameras and especially secondary screening where a high degree of technical expertise is needed.
Consequently, JPMCnova, partner of EyRIS organised and sponsored a full day workshop on “Interpreting Fundus Images for Diabetic Retinopathy (DR)” with the following objectives:
- Identify damage to the blood vessels in the retina such as hemorrhages, swelling, or new blood vessel growth, drusen, exudates, etc
- Correctly classify DR
- And standardise grading of fundus images
We had the privilege of having Haslina Hamzah the “fundus image whisperer” from SNEC Ocular Reading Centre (SORC) to share her expertise with a class of over 40 attendees. Amazing turn-out by decicated MOH and enthusiasts from private sector who gave up their non-working day to attend this training.

We thank Minister of Health, Brunei Darussalam, Dato Seri Setia Dr. Haji Mohammad Isham bin Haji Jaafar who presented Haslina a plaque of appreciation for her role in strengthening the national screening program.

Also a big shout-out to Dr Helena who made all this possible and FrameLens who provided a Topcon NW500 for the training.
