ISLAND HOSPITAL, PENANG AWARDED FLAGSHIP MEDICAL TOURISM HOSPITAL FOR 2025

17 December 2025 – Over the years, Malaysia has seen robust growth in health tourism. This year the industry projected to welcome about 1.6 million healthcare travelers in 2025, generating RM2.72 billion (USD666 million) in revenue.

Malaysia Healthcare Travel Council (MHTC), the lead agency tasked to promote Malaysia’s healthcare tourism declared Island Hospital (IH), Penang the winner of the Flagship Medical Tourism Hospital (FMTH) Programme 2025.

As part of the evaluation, participating hospitals were measured on their innovation initiatives and operational performance. IH’s integrated digital ecosystem designed to improve patient experience included a complete electronic medical records (EMR) that are integrated across all clinical departments to support accurate, efficient care coordination and a mobile app with real-time queue tracking, which allows patients to monitor their turn and enjoy a more relaxed waiting experience.

With these digital initiatives in place, IH has improved waiting experience, enhanced clinical coordination and scored higher patient satisfaction. Since 2022, it welcomed about 700,000 international patients from over 80 countries. The strategic investments IH continues to make ensures that it can accommodate the forecasted growth.
