31 Jul 2012 – South East Asia’s first hospital specializing in colorectal diseases opened in Singapore today. The newly built facility 31-bed is owned by Indian healthcare provider Fortis, the Fortis Colorectal Hospital (FCH).
While colorectal cancer is the third most common cancer in the world, it is the number one type of cancer affecting men and leading cause of cancer-related deaths in Singapore.
Guest-of-honour at the opening ceremony, Dr Amy Khor, Singapore’s Minister of State for Health, welcomed Fortis Healthcare’s investment in the specialist hospital, calling it “very timely”.
The hospital provides services such as elective and emergency endoscopy, laparoscopic and robotic surgery, and has a 24-hour Colorectal Care Clinic which provides consultations and follow-up care for colorectal conditions. In addition, the hospital will also focus on education and research to improve colorectal disease treatment in the region.
As part of the hospital commissioning, VESALIUS was implemented to computerize the key work processes and provides the backbone for 3rd party systems integration such as financial, laboratory and RIS/PACS.
